Joe Hallett, the Director of Instruction at Vanderbilt Legends Club, is the 2018 recipient of the Horton Smith Award, the PGA of America. Presented annually since 1976, the Horton Smith Award recognizes individuals who have developed and enriched education opportunities at the state, sectional and national levels. Hallett is this year’s national award winner. He was the Tennessee section’s Horton Smith Award winner in 2012 and PGA Teacher of the Year in 2013. He has a quarter century of experience as a PGA Professional and has worked closely with a number of high-profile players on the LPGA Tour, including Stacy Lewis, who was ranked No. 1 in the world in 2012, Inbee Park and Lizette Salas. Hallett served as lead instructor at the PGA Center for Learning and Performance in Port St. Lucie, Fla. and was director and chairman of the 2011 PGA Teaching Coaching Summit. He also hosted and produced “The Golf Show” on Sportstalk Radio Network.

Micah Hicks Director Of Golf
Show Bio
Micah is from Cheraw, SC and moved to Middle Tennessee after living in the Carolinas for most of his life. He played collegiate golf at Furman University and lived in Greenville SC for 13 years where he met his wife Ginger. Micah and Ginger have a son, Micah William, and twins, Marion and Oliver. Prior to Legends Club he was the Head Golf Professional at Sage Valley Golf Club in Aiken, SC and then the Director of Golf at Mountaintop Golf and Lake Club in Cashiers, NC. In his spare time, Micah enjoys sporting events and attending concerts.
Micah has been an instructor since he turned pro in 1997 and has instructed all levels, from PGA Tour winners to complete beginners. “I am personally invested in the success of my students. Watching their growth as players and helping them reach their potential is incredibly gratifying.”
Kass Kovalcheck Head Golf Professional

Kass was born and raised in Nashville. He has worked at the Vanderbilt Legends Club since 2005. He started out as an Assistant Professional before being promoted to Head Professional in 2018. Before coming to the club, Kass was an Assistant Professional at The University Club and Charwood Country Club in Columbia, South Carolina. Kass with his wife Amy, and their dog Carter reside in Franklin.
Eric Brown Assistant Golf Professional

Eric has been at the Legends Club since 2018 as the Assistant Golf Professional. He began his career in 1992 at Shelby Country Club in Ohio. He moved to Nashville as the 1st Assistant Golf Professional at Belle Meade Country Club in 2006 and was there for ten years. Eric attributes much of his sharpened teaching skills to this time. He then moved on to be the Head Golf Professional at Bluegrass Yacht and Country Club where he was proud to help increase membership by twelve percent as a result of a targeted and intentional tournament schedule. He lives in Nashville with his wife Danielle, and has two sons: Ethan, 15, and Corbin, 11 months. Danielle is the Business Leader at Restoration Hardware in Green Hills.
Buddy Harston Teaching Professional

Buddy Harston is in his twelfth year as Head Teaching Professional at the Legends Academy. In addition to giving one-on-one instruction and on-course “playing lessons” to every age group, he conducts the popular weekly clinics during the spring and summer months. He was named Kentucky PGA Teacher of the Year in 1993 and fourth “Best Teacher in the State” of Tennessee by Golf Digest in 2016. He has had three articles published in Golf Digest and Golf Magazine. Buddy is also a very accomplished player having played on the PGA Tour, Web.com Tour and the Champions Tour. In his career, he has competed in nine major championships including a PGA Championship at Hazeltine Golf Club, two Senior British Opens and two United States Senior Opens. Buddy is an accomplished student of the mental aspects of the game. He has been a personal client of Dr. Bob Rotella, author of Golf Is Not a Game of Perfect, for more than twenty years. Along with the knowledge and mental techniques learned from Dr. Rotella, he adds the experience gained competing at golf’s highest level. Every February he hosts his highly popular “Mental Game of Golf” workshop at the club. Believing that a player’s golf swing can only be as good as his body allows, Buddy also stresses the importance of golf fitness. He is a Titleist Performance Institute Level 2 Certified Golf Fitness Instructor and regularly designs workout regimens for members and their guests. Buddy has also coached both men’s and women’s golf teams on the NCAA Division 1 level and has taught and tutored several college, high school and junior champions. His college teams broke the school’s low scoring records numerous times. He is a member of the Lipscomb University Athletics Hall of Fame where he played baseball and earned All-Tournament honors as well as the Bronze Glove Award at the 1972 NAIA College World Series.
Tristin Corrales Assistant Golf Professional

Tristin joined the Legends Club in March of 2021. He moved to the area from Hilton Head, South Carolina where he was the First Assistant Professional at Shipyard Golf Club. Tristin graduated from The Golf Academy of America in Myrtle Beach, SC, and continued to develop his teaching skills under the tutelage of Steve Dresser at True Blue Golf Club. Having been self-taught, he understands how overwhelming the game can be to a beginner, and has made ‘simplification of instruction’ the cornerstone of his teaching philosophy.
